The Cold Spring Harbor girls basketball team secured its third consecutive Nassau County title Wednesday night, defeating Carle Place 59-34 in the Class B finals at Farmingdale State College.

The top-seeded Seahawks (18-4) dominated the second-seeded Frogs (15-6) behind strong performances from junior guard Olivia Mulada and sophomore forward Kaitlin Millett, according to game statistics. The victory sends Cold Spring Harbor to the Long Island championship game against Suffolk Class B champion Babylon on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at Suffolk County Community College in Selden.

The win marks the program’s second straight Class B county title, following their Class A championship in 2024, according to team records. More importantly for the Seahawks, the victory officially returns them to the Class B state tournament, which they won last year for their first state title.

“Obviously, the goal is the state championship,” Mulada said after the game. “It’s going to be one game at a time, and we’re just going to focus on playing our game and take it day by day. It feels good to be one step closer, but the job is not done.”

Cold Spring Harbor struggled early, making just one basket through the first three-and-a-half minutes of play. However, the Seahawks quickly turned the game around with a dominant 15-0 run that extended halfway into the second quarter, building a commanding 17-4 lead.

Mulada spearheaded the decisive run with seven points, all scored toward the end of the first quarter, according to game reports. Carle Place freshman guard Tyler Reedy temporarily halted the streak with a fast-break layup, but Cold Spring Harbor responded immediately with another 10 consecutive points from four different scorers, extending their advantage to 27-6.

The Frogs never recovered from the early deficit, failing to get closer than 20 points for the remainder of the contest.

Mulada finished with a team-high 18 points while contributing six rebounds, four assists and five steals, according to official statistics. Her all-around performance helped control the game’s tempo and pace.

Millett provided crucial support with 14 points, six rebounds, three assists, six steals and one block. She sparked Cold Spring Harbor’s second scoring run with a pull-up jump shot from the left elbow before recording a steal and assisting on the following basket.

“We hope to do the same thing again, but this was step one, and it’s one step at a time,” Millett said. “Next step is Babylon, and we’ll see what happens. It feels really good to be back in this.”

The championship represents another milestone for a Cold Spring Harbor program that has established itself as a consistent contender at both the county and state levels. With their Nassau County title secured, the Seahawks now face the challenge of defending their state championship, which requires winning four more games.

Saturday’s Long Island championship against Babylon will be the next test for Cold Spring Harbor as they pursue their ultimate goal of repeating as state champions. The winner of that contest will advance to the state tournament’s regional rounds, moving one step closer to the state finals.

The Seahawks’ experience from last year’s championship run could prove valuable as they navigate the pressure and expectations that come with being defending state champions in what they hope will be a long and successful postseason campaign.
